  5. The IRIX 6.5 Complementary Applications CD, February 2004, is a companion
  6. to IRIX 6.5.23 and the IRIX 6.5 Applications CD.  This CD contains
  7. various desktop applications and products that are not installed by
  8. default.  
  9.  
  10. IMPORTANT Complementary Applications CD NOTE:
  11. Because the .related_dists file has been removed from the IRIX
  12. 6.5 Applications CD distribution, users may not be aware of the
  13. /CDROM/dist/dev and /CDROM/dist/extras directories.  To access 
  14. these use the `open` option in Software Manager.

  30. Important Notes About the Products
  31. ----------------------------------
  32. CDE 5.3.3
  33. The new release of CDE 5.3.3 is dependent on the updated version of
  34. ToolTalk that is included with IRIX 6.5.19 or later.  ToolTalk patch
  35. 4915 was created that will allow this version of CDE to install
  36. on earlier versions of IRIX 6.5.X.
  37.  
  38. Netscape Communicator Client
  39. Netscape Communicator Client 4.8a is part of the default distribution
  40. on the other Applications CD. Customers who only use the browser
  41. functionality (and not the email, newsgroups, etc.) may prefer to
  42. install the Netscape Navigator Client (netscape_lite) 4.8a located
  43. on this Complementary Applications CD. From Software Manager, open 
  44. /CDROM/dist/extras to install this product.  
  45.  
  46. Beginning with Netscape 4.8 the default browser is compiled N32 so 
  47. older Third party Netscape plugins will not work with the new N32 
  48. browser. All plugins exist in N32 versions except the older Shockwave
  49. plugin.  The O32 Netscape client s/w is no longer part of the 
  50. distribution.

  52. Release Notes
  53. -------------
  54. If you choose to read the release notes for products before installing 
  55. new products, you can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager.
  56. From the desktop Toolchest choose System, then Software Manager.  This
  57. will bring up the Software Manager window.  Choose to Customize Installation
  58. by typing /CDROM/dist into the Available Software box.  A list of products 
  59. available for installation will come up.  If the product name is highlighted 
  60. (similar to an HTML link) then there are Release Notes available.  Simply
  61. click on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
